800 MW WIND POWER PLANT TO PROVIDE THE DONETSK REGION WITH RELIABLE ELECTRICITY

WIND FARM LLC together with NPC Ukrenergo and DMCC ENGINEERING LLC has developed a unique for Ukraine grid connection scheme for a wind power plant (WPP) with installed capacity of 800 MW in Nikolsky and Mangush districts of Donetsk region. The simulation of the scheme includes calculations of electric modes of operation, dynamic stability, estimation of loading of crossings of the Unified Power System of Ukraine and proves that WPP does not negatively affect the grid.

This connection scheme not only connects the new WPP to the grid, but also has a great social effect. The substation PS 220 kV Azovskaya, which feeds the entire western part of Mariupol, has a significant shortage of electricity. Donetsk region has one of the worst power quality supplies in Ukraine. These problems will be solved through connection of the WIND FARM LLC wind farm to the grid. When grid connected, a powerful electric ring will be formed near the Mariupol - a unique by its reliability circuit. Similar system currently exists only around city of Kiev.

As part of the project, WIND FARM LLC, together with RES Advisor LLC and the German company Deutsche WindGuard GmbH, has launched a one-year on-site wind measurement campaign. For this reason, a 120 m wind mast equipped with wind sensors has been installed.

The preliminary wind potential assessment showed a capacity factor of 45 % based on wind turbine Vestas V-150, 5.6 MW. The average wind speed reaches 7.6 m/s at 120 m hub height.
