FINANCING ENERGY IN UKRAINE: GREEN FUTURE IS COMING

On 14 June 22018 Redcliffe Partners and Clifford Chance hosted a high-profile gathering of green energy professionals, policy-makers, institutional investors and commercial banks to discuss various opportunities in the renewables sector in Ukraine, including attracting financing for the renewable projects.

The Conference was addressed by Sergiy Savchuk, Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, Dmytro Kovalenko, newly elected Member of the National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER), Andrіy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, Vice President of WWEA, Michael Bno-Airiyan, International Cooperation Officer of NEC Ukrenergo, representatives of EBRD and Ukrgasbank, as well as and leading lawyers from Redcliffe Partners and Clifford Chance and Renewable Energy Market Experts participated in the event.

In his presentation, Sergiy Savchuk, Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, noted that more than 1.1 billion euros were invested in Ukrainian "green" industry during the last three years: "The very favorable legal framework and new initiatives give a positive signal to investors for investing in Ukrainian" clean energy”.

“It should be noted that since 2017 leading wind and investment companies from China, Turkey, Denmark and Germany expressed great interest in renewable energy sector of Ukraine. However, Ukraine is still at the initial stage of development of “green” energy in comparison to most European countries with 10% to 44% share of wind  generation in their energy mix”, said Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, Vice President of WWEA.
