Second Ukrainian NDC Methodological Workshop organized by the Climate Change and Ozone Layer Protection Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine within the framework of the EBRD project “Support to the Government of Ukraine on Updating its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), was held on 13 March 2019 in Kyiv. The project is being implemented by the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The seminar participants discussed the objectives, methodological aspects and modelling tools for the GHG emissions scenarios in Ukraine by sectors. In particular, the participants paid special attention to modelling tolls for such sectors as: energy and industrial processes, land use, agriculture and forestry, and the waste sector.
Taras Bebeshko, expert of the EBRD project “Support to the Government of Ukraine on Updating its Nationally Determined Contribution” noted that the NDC covers such aspects as maintaining the global temperature increase below 1.50C, the fight against poverty and the right to development. “NDC is a contribution that a state, a country could make in the global fight against climate change based on its own definition of “sustainable development” for national purposes. We have no right to neglect either our own future or our own development for any conditions. The basis of the NDC of Ukraine should be humanity and sustainable development”, - stressed Taras Bebeshko.
A working group was set up to develop a new NDC, consisting of representatives of governmental, professional and non-governmental organizations, business, regional and municipal associations, scientists, experts and representatives of international donors and financial organizations. The Ukrainian Wind Energy Association is a member of the Working Group on the Development of a New Nationally-Determined Contribution of Ukraine to the Paris Agreement.
