PRODUCTION AND USE OF HYDROGEN OFFERS ALTERNATIVE ENERGY PATHWAYS TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

A meeting between the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA), the Energy Association Ukrainian Hydrogen Council (UHC) and the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association took place in Berlin on 13 December 2018.

The partners discussed the opportunities for hydrogen and renewable development in Ukraine, including issues such as production and use of hydrogen in industry, transport (trucks, buses, trains) wind and solar for H2, grid balancing etc.  It was agreed that the experiences in hydrogen-business and R&D in Germany might help to implement a hydrogen strategy in the Ukraine, which UHC is planning to present at Second International Wind Hydrogen Conference in Kyiv in May 2019.

The participants consented to work on a draft program for a comprehensive study on the possibilities for hydrogen applications in the Ukraine with a focus on wind-solar-hydrogen.

The parties signed a tripartite Memorandum on Cooperation and Partnership between the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, the Energy Association Ukrainian Hydrogen Council and the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association. The objective of the Memorandum is to promote a mutually beneficial partnership and cooperation between the Parties in the field of wind and hydrogen energies to ensure transition to low carbon economies.

People's Artist of Ukraine Ruslana, Ambassador for RE 100%, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, who has committed herself firmly to a global, 100% renewable energy future participated in the meetings.
