200 MW PRYMORSKA WIND FARM HAS BEEN COMMISSIONED IN UKRAINE

On 1 November 2019, DTEK commissioned the second phase of their Prymorska Wind Farm - Prymorska Wind Power Plant 2 (WPP). From that day onwards 52 turbines totalling 200 MW generate environmentally friendly electricity.

Prymorska Wind Farm is located in the Zaporozhzhia region at two sites spaced about 50 km apart: in Prymorskiy district – Prymorska WPP 1 and in Pryazovskiy district - Prymorska WPP 2, each with 100 MW installed capacity. 26 GE 3.8-130 wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 130 m are installed at Prymorska WPP 1, while 26 GE 3.8-137 wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 137 m are installed at Prymorska WPP 2. All wind turbines are manufactured by General Electric. The unit capacity of each wind turbine is 3.8 MW.

Prymorska Wind Farm will generate about 700 mln kWh per year, which is enough to supply 360 thousand households with electricity.  All wind turbines are connected to the United Energy System of Ukraine. Annually Prymorska Wind Farm will save about 600-700 thousand tons of CO2.

“DTEK is the largest national investor into the green energy sector of Ukraine. We have already invested more than 1 billion euros in the construction of 1 GW of solar and wind power plants,”- said Maksim Timchenko, DTEK CEO. - Our partners in renewable energy projects are the world's leading OEMs and financial institutions. The effective partnership allows attracting foreign investments, advanced technologies, experience and expertise to the country. This builds up trust in Ukraine, encourages new investors to invest in the economy of our country. The launch of the Prymorska WPP is the company's next contribution to strengthening the country's energy independence, improving the environment and the life of communities. ”

“Zaporizhzhia oblast is one of the best in terms of introducing renewable energy sources, as well as Dnipropetrovsk one. They are leaders in RE development, these regions demonstrate how to cooperate with business to attract investors and economically develop a region”, said Yurii Shafarenko, Head of Renewable Energy Sources Department of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine.

Andriy Konehcenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board noted: “Prymorska Wind Farm contributes to the formation of the new competitive market; this is a good example of transformation from fossil energy to a “green” energy, this is also a good example of positive impact on environment. At Botievska WPP, for example, they produce honey. Every kilowatt-hour generated at such wind power plant means not only investments in the region and Ukraine but also in the health of our nation and our people’s life extension”, said Konechenkov.

The day before, DTEK commissioned 240 MW Pokrovskaya Solar Power Plant, the second largest solar power plant in Europe. Pokrovskaya SPP located in Nikopol district of Dnepropetrovsk region, on the territory of an open-pit ore mine with a total area of 437 hectares, will annually produce about 400 mln kWh of “green” electricity, enough to supply 200,000 households with clean energy. The solar power plant will save up to 420 thousand tons of carbon dioxide, which is comparable to emissions generated by more than 200 thousand cars. Pokrovskaya Solar Power Plant consists of 840,000 solar panels manufactured by Risen (PRC).
