The 6th Turkish Wind Energy Congress hosted by the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TWEA) was successfully held in Ankara on 1-2 November 2017.

The Congress entitled  «More Local More Renewable» gathered together  over 2000 delegates representing state ad  private sectors of Turkish wind industry, leading wind turbine manufactures, international wind experts and  scientists. 

At the opening session welcoming remarks were made by  Mustafa Serdar Ataseven, President of the Turkish Wind Energy Association, Dr. Berat Albayrak, Minister of Energy and National Resources, Giles Dickson, WindEurope CEO, Steve Sawyer, General Secretary of Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC),  MustafaYilmaz, President of the Turkish Energy Market Regulator (EMRA) and Cihan Pektas, President of the Environmental Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

In the opening address, Giles Dickson congratulated  TWEA on their 25 th anniversary and a great success in wind power development: «We are delighted with an excellent progress you are making here in Turkey on a wind energy».

According to the TWEA President  the total wind capacity in Turkey reached 6,483 MW in the first half of 2017 .

Andriy Konecehnov, Chairman of  the UWEA,  speaking at the session devoted to Global Wind Investments presented wind energy development in Ukraine and stressed importance on cooperation between Ukrainian and Turkish wind developers.

During the 6th Turtkish Wind Energy Congress and the heads of UWEA and the TWEA agreed on future cooperation between the Ukrainian and Turkish wind energy associations. Memorandum on Cooperation between two associations will be sinned by the end of November 2017. 

Mustafa Serdar Ataseven, President of the Turkish Wind Energy Association, in his interview to the UWEA noted: «We are very pleased to welcome the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association at our 6th Turkish Wind Energy Congress.  As you know this year we are celebrating 25th anniversary of the Turkish Wind Energy Association. 

Wind industry develops very rapidly in Turkey. Now we have 7 plants producing towers, 4 blades factories, 2 gear box companies and 2 generator companies active in the country.

During his addressing speech our Minister  of Energy and Natural Resources

Dr. Berat Albayrak announced that 2000 MW tender process will be finished by the end of this year. Considering this summer 700 MW tender, 1000 MW YEKA project  and 2000 MW announced by our Energy Minister we have around 4 GW new wind capacities under way. In addition our government, our Energy Ministry are now preparing second 1000 MW YEKA wind project. All this means further rapid and successful development of Turkish wind market».
