On April 8, 2025, during the Annual WindEurope Event, the UWEA and GreenPower Denmark signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Ukrainian-Danish cooperation in wind energy. The signing was later publicly announced during the high-level Ministerial Session - an event that traditionally opens WindEurope and brings together ministers of energy, climate, and infrastructure from across the EU.
The ceremonial announcement of this strengthened bilateral partnership was made in the presence of H.E. Andrii Yanevskyi, Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark, and Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope.
The Memorandum establishes a strategic partnership aimed at advancing renewable energy in Ukraine, with particular focus on:
Kristian Jensen, CEO of GreenPower Denmark and signatory to the Memorandum, stated:
“Ukraine has set an extraordinarily ambitious goal - to significantly boost its share of clean, energy-independent generation, especially wind power, by 2030. We have the tools and the know-how to help make this vision a reality. There is no time to lose, and no reason to wait for the war to end. By building cooperation now, we lay the foundations for Ukraine’s long-term green transition.”
Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will prioritize the following areas of collaboration:
Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board and co-signatory of the Memorandum remarked: “This Memorandum stands as a symbol of our shared commitment to collaboration, innovation, and a clean energy future. The war has dealt a heavy blow to our energy system, but it has not broken our spirit. Danish experience, technology, and capital can help Ukraine develop both its onshore and offshore wind sectors. GreenPower Denmark’s support sends a powerful signal: despite the immense challenges, Ukraine is determined to move forward.”
This Memorandum complements the existing intergovernmental Ukrainian-Danish Energy Partnership Programme (UDEPP), reinforcing its strategic direction with practical, sector-level implementation.
It is also worth highlighting that on April 7, 2025, on the eve of the Memorandum’s signing, an expert discussion on the "Ukraine-Denmark Wind Energy Partnership" took place at the headquarters of State of Green - Denmark’s national platform for sustainable development, uniting over 600 stakeholders from business, government, academia, and civil society. The dialogue brought together representatives of GreenPower Denmark, the Danish Energy Agency, Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO), and key industry players from both countries, including Vestas and DTEK Renewables, who shared their experiences from the ongoing Tyligulska wind farm project.
UWEA and GreenPower Denmark cooperation aims to act as catalysts for transformation, bridging national ambitions with Europe’s cutting-edge expertise. UWEA extends its heartfelt gratitude to GreenPower Denmark and WindEurope for their steadfast support, organizational assistance, and unwavering solidarity with Ukraine’s wind energy sector. Thanks to the platform provided and the openness to collaboration, Ukraine’s voice is being heard and its energy transition is increasingly recognized.
