On 27 June, 2025, the UWEA, together with leading industry companies — WINDHUNTER SERVICE, ADVIRES, and NAVITAS RENEWABLES — hosted a webinar dedicated to the critical role of professional wind measurements and high-quality turbine servicing in ensuring the success and reliability of wind power projects. The discussion was moderated by Galyna Shmidt, UWEA Board Member and Head of International Affairs.
Ukraine’s wind energy market is showing dynamic growth, opening new opportunities for professional development and economic revitalization. In this context, precise wind measurement campaigns and advanced servicing approaches are becoming fundamental to the reliability, efficiency, and investment appeal of wind power projects.
Modern requirements for wind measurements go far beyond simply installing high masts or using LiDAR/SoDAR devices. They demand strict adherence to international standards such as IEC 61400-50-1/2, MEASNET, and FGW TR6, which ensure the accuracy and bankability of collected data, critical for securing project financing. High-quality measurements not only enable precise assessment of a site’s energy production potential but also minimize investor risks by ensuring reliable revenue forecasts.
Dmytro Honcharenko, Founder of ADVIRES Group, stated: “Professional wind measurements are a critical factor for project success: the accuracy of data directly influences investor confidence, financing costs, and the final project economics. Without bankable measurements performed to international standards, the true wind potential of a site cannot be unlocked. Only a comprehensive approach — from spatial analysis to final energy yield assessment — can turn a project idea into a bankable asset. ”
Michał Zarzycki, Sales Manager/Sales Analysis Specialist at WINDHUNTER SERVICE, emphasized: “Modern wind measurement is not just about installing a mast or LiDAR, but a comprehensive process: from precise site selection, installation, and calibration to continuous data quality control and validation. This approach minimizes financial risks and lays a solid foundation for the successful construction of a wind farm. ”
At the same time, the issue of turbine servicing in Ukraine’s current conditions is equally critical. Servicing must account for the specific model’s requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and safety standards. Best practices dictate that regular maintenance must include bolt tension checks, alignment verification, hydraulic system servicing, electrical system assessments, and safety equipment inspections. Blade inspections, in particular, deserve special attention: modern technologies enable these inspections with drones or rope access, significantly enhancing safety and inspection quality. These inspections cover lightning protection systems, protective coatings, serrations, and blade-to-hub connections.
A key market trend is the urgent need to develop local Ukrainian service teams capable of providing not only high-quality installation and maintenance but also reliable warranty and post-warranty support, independent of foreign experts. This will reduce turbine downtime, lower operating costs, and increase service flexibility — even during wartime.
Olena Umanets, Director of NAVITAS RENEWABLES, highlighted: “Our team’s experience, having installed most of the European turbines in Ukraine, shows that only a systematic approach, adherence to regular maintenance programs, and rapid emergency response can ensure stable generation and extend equipment life. We focus on building an independent Ukrainian team of highly qualified specialists who work to international standards and can keep turbines in top condition even in wartime. This is more than service — it’s an investment in Ukraine’s resilience and energy independence.”
Together, these aspects form a comprehensive approach to wind power project development in Ukraine, where professional measurements and high-quality servicing are the cornerstones of long-term reliability, high productivity, and secure investments.
The UWEA expresses its sincere gratitude to WINDHUNTER SERVICE, ADVIRES, and NAVITAS RENEWABLES for their participation in the webinar, valuable expert contributions, and active support for the development of Ukraine’s wind energy market. Together, we are taking meaningful steps towards a sustainable and energy-independent Ukraine!
