UWEA & WINDHUNTER ACADEMY WEBINAR: WIND ENERGY AS A LAUNCHPAD FOR PROFESSIONAL REINVENTION

On 29 May 2025, the UWEA, in partnership with Windhunter Academy — a leading European training center for wind turbine technicians and a proud member of UWEA — held a webinar “Wind Turbine Technicians – Building New Workforce and Competencies.” The event offered more than just technical insights. It became a meaningful platform for exploring the role of human capital in accelerating Ukraine’s energy transition. Focused on professional reinvention through green energy, the webinar brought together wind project developers, vocational education institutions, and HR professionals who are already laying the groundwork for a resilient and inclusive workforce ecosystem.

According to the Global Wind Energy Council, by 2028 the global wind sector will require more than 574,000 new professionals, nearly half of whom must be skilled technicians responsible for turbine installation, operations, and maintenance. For Ukraine — a country facing the dual challenge of war and energy transformation — this is not merely a chance, but a historic opportunity to align social recovery with energy resilience.

Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board: “Wind energy in Ukraine is not just about megawatts — it's about people. We must create pathways for every veteran, miner, student, or displaced person to find a new future in the green energy economy.”

During the webinar, Windhunter Academy showcased its comprehensive training program for wind technicians, built on Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards. The curriculum includes:

  • GWO Basic Safety Training: Working at Heights, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling
  • GWO Basic Technical Training: Mechanics, Hydraulics, Electricity, Installation, Bolt Tightening
  • As well as advanced and specialized modules such as Advanced Rescue, Crane & Hoist, Lift User, and Slinger Signaller.

Over the past 14 years, Windhunter Academy has trained more than 31,000 specialists and issued over 54,000 certifications, placing it among the top five wind energy training providers in Europe.

Magdalena Kryszewska, Managing Director of Windhunter Academy: “A qualified workforce is the foundation of a resilient wind industry. Every technician we train today accelerates the energy transition of tomorrow. It’s standards, skills, and a strong safety culture that elevate the sector to new heights.”

Windhunter Academy is already implementing reskilling programs for veterans, miners, and fishermen, while actively collaborating with technical colleges and universities across Europe. Their initiatives include instructor training, student internships, and support for innovative educational partnerships — bridging the gap between industrial demand and real human opportunity.

Ukrainian wind energy is more than a path to energy independence — it is a gateway to a dynamic, modern labor market. We extend our sincere thanks to our partner, Windhunter Academy, for their expertise, inspiration, and unwavering commitment to collaboration.
