Joint Meeting of the UWEA Board and Committees: Aligning Actions, Reviewing Results, and Setting Priorities for 2026

On 27 November 2025, the UWEA held a joint meeting of its Board and two key expert bodies - the Legal Committee and the Committee on BESS Development & Implementation. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen strategic coordination, align workstreams, and define key priorities for the upcoming year.

The meeting was opened by Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board, who emphasized that today it is essential not only to shape a long-term vision for the sector but also to react more actively and systematically to urgent market challenges: “We gathered today to speak openly about both strategic objectives and the existing barriers, achievements, and lessons the wind sector has gained over the past year. Our goal is to synchronize efforts so that 2026 becomes a year of decisive action and confident market growth.”

Mr. Konechenkov also noted that, according to UWEA’s estimates, 37 member companies are currently actively involved in wind and BESS projects, highlighting the scale and diversification of roles within the sector.

Olga Savchenko, Head of the Legal Committee, presented the Committee’s results for 2025, including: drafting and reviewing several legislative initiatives; participating in consultations with government authorities; developing legal positions on key regulatory and market issues. She emphasized the Committee’s strategic mission: “Our goal is not to fight the regulatory environment - our goal is to create it.”

Ihor Retivov, Head of the Committee on BESS Development, presented the Committee’s work aimed at shaping an attractive and predictable market environment for energy storage projects. Continuing, Yevhen Kontorshchykov, analyst of the UWEA Secretariat, shared the results of a member survey showing that 33.3% of surveyed companies already operate energy storage systems, and an increasing number of companies plan to invest in this technology in the coming years. These findings demonstrate the rapid emergence of the energy storage market as an integral part of Ukraine’s modern energy system.

Meeting participants also discussed priority legislative and regulatory initiatives, as well as mechanisms for improving internal coordination to strengthen UWEA’s impact at all levels. Significant attention was dedicated to existing barriers that continue to hinder project development.

In the final part of the meeting, the participants outlined the Association’s key priorities for the next year, including:

  • participation in major international events shaping global renewable energy policy, particularly in the wind sector;
  • strengthening cooperation with European partners;
  • intensifying advocacy and policy engagement in Ukraine;
  • preparation of the Second Ukrainian Wind Energy Forum, which will be the flagship industry event of 2026.

The joint meeting reaffirmed the readiness of UWEA members to continue working in a coordinated, professional, and strategic manner. Participants emphasized that UWEA remains a central platform for consolidating market positions, shaping regulatory solutions, and advancing the development of Ukraine’s wind energy and energy storage sectors.
