UWEA HAS APPROVED ITS 2026 WORK PLAN AND EXPANDED ITS BOARD

On 27 February 2026, the UWEA held its first Board meeting of the year, with the key agenda items being the approval of the 2026 work plan and the expansion of the Board.

The meeting was opened by the Chairman of UWEA Board Andriy Konechenkov, who, among other points, presented a summary of the Association’s activities in 2025. According to him, UWEA continues to play an active role in shaping the regulatory environment: over the past year, the Association submitted 106 official letters to public authorities, including 25 joint positions with partner business associations. UWEA’s proactive stance has delivered a number of tangible outcomes for the market, including:

  • extension of the cash accounting method;
  • removal of import duties on wind energy equipment;
  • extension of the possibility to use Detailed Territorial Plans (DTPs);
  • introduction of a capacity booking mechanism;
  • approval of a cost-reflective (non-deficit) transmission tariff.

The 2026 work plan was presented by Board Member and Head of the International Department of the UWEA Secretariat, Galyna Shmidt. She emphasized a strategic shift in approach: “The Association is moving from a reactive model to proactively shaping the sector’s development agenda.”

Key priorities for 2026 include:

  • improving renewable energy legislation;
  • integrating renewable energy into Ukraine’s power system;
  • advancing community-level wind energy projects;
  • strengthening human capital and educational initiatives;
  • developing the energy storage market.

One of the most actively discussed topics during the meeting was human capital development. In particular, Board members explored cooperation formats with universities, career guidance initiatives, and the concept of establishing a dedicated educational platform under UWEA – Wind Academy, which could become a key element in training the next generation of industry professionals.

Participants also focused on preparations for major industry events, including Energy Storage Day 2026, as well as UWEA’s role in leading international platforms such as WindEurope and WindEnergy Hamburg.

An additional item on the agenda was the expansion of the Board's membership. Onur Copçuoğlu, Ph.D., Regional Manager at Eksim Energy and Executive Director at Atlas Global Energy, joined the UWEA Board.

We warmly welcome the new Board member and wish him every success in contributing to the development of Ukraine’s wind energy sector!
