Ukraine's Green Reconstruction: Real Steps Toward Clean Energy and a Robust Economy!

Ukraine's Green Reconstruction: Real Steps Toward Clean Energy and a Robust Economy!

On 07 July 2025, experts gathered at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center to present the research titled Green Recovery. This project is a collaborative effort by the visual agency Top Lead, with analytical support from the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association and numerous partners. The research highlights how renewable energy sources, particularly wind energy, can help Ukraine achieve energy independence, create new jobs, and align with European sustainable development standards.

Why is this important? Because green recovery is not just about ecology – it’s about building a resilient energy system, attracting investments, and supporting communities. Moreover, it’s an opportunity for Ukraine to demonstrate to the world that we can rebuild better than before, following the "build back better" principle.

Key Insights from Experts:

Yevhenii Kontorshchykov, an analyst at the UWEA, explained why wind energy is a pivotal tool for such a transformation:

Wind energy is one of the key drivers of Ukraine’s green reconstruction. This research clearly demonstrates that it offers more than just clean electricity – it enables the decentralization of the energy system, which is critically important today. Developing wind farms creates new jobs, especially in regions, attracts long-term international investments, and significantly contributes to the growth of local communities. Ukraine possesses immense wind potential, and as a specialized association, our mission is to maximize its utilization.”

In turn, Evgen Lapchenko, Head of Regulatory Affairs at DTEK Renewables, emphasized how decentralized energy can safeguard the nation:

DTEK Renewables views green reconstruction as vital for Ukraine. Decentralized generation, including wind power plants and energy storage facilities, enhances the country’s energy security. Their widespread distribution across a large territory makes the energy system more resilient to attacks. Such research helps showcase the industry’s achievements and the challenges that must be collectively addressed to ensure the sustainable development of Ukraine’s energy sector.”

What’s in the Research?

Spanning 28 pages, the document provides clear information with infographics on:

  • What green reconstruction entails and how it can benefit Ukraine.

  • How European integration accelerates the transition to green energy.

  • The potential of renewable energy sources (RES) and opportunities for investors.

  • Funding options for green projects, both domestically and internationally.

  • Real-life examples of communities and companies implementing sustainable solutions.
