On June 27, 2025, UWEA, together with leading companies in the industry – WINDHUNTER SERVICE, ADVIRES and NAVITAS RENEWABLES – held another webinar dedicated to the topic of professional wind measurements and high-quality wind turbine service, which are critically important for the success of projects and the reliability of wind farm operations. The discussion was moderated by Galyna Schmidt, member of the Board and head of the international department of UWEA.
The Ukrainian wind energy market is demonstrating dynamic development, opening up new opportunities for professional implementation and economic revival. In this context, accurate wind measurement campaigns and advanced approaches to wind turbine service become the basis for the reliability, efficiency and investment attractiveness of wind energy projects.
Modern requirements for wind measurements include not only the installation of high masts or the use of lidar/sodar, but also compliance with international standards IEC 61400-50-1/2, MEASNET and FGW TR6, which determine the accuracy and “banking attractiveness” of the obtained data for further financing of projects. After all, it is high-quality measurements that allow not only to correctly assess the potential for electricity production on the site, but also to minimize risks for the investor, ensuring the accuracy of the forecast of further profitability.
Dmytro Goncharenko, founder of the ADVIRES group of companies:
Professional wind measurements are a critical factor for a successful project: the accuracy of the data determines the trust of investors, the cost of financing and the final economy of the wind farm. We see that without bank measurements performed according to international standards, it is impossible to reveal the true wind potential of the site. Only a comprehensive approach — from spatial analysis to the final assessment of production — allows you to turn the project idea into an investment-attractive asset.
Michal Zarzycki, sales manager / sales analysis specialist, WINDHUNTER SERVICE:
Modern wind measurements are not just installing a mast or lidar, but a complex process: from precise site selection, installation and calibration to continuous data quality control and validation. Only such an approach allows you to minimize financial risks and lay a solid foundation for the successful construction of a wind farm.
At the same time, the issue of turbine service in modern conditions in Ukraine is no less important. Service work should be performed taking into account the specifics of a particular wind turbine model, manufacturer’s recommendations and safety requirements. According to best practices, mandatory components of regular service include checking and tightening bolted connections, checking the alignment of components, maintenance of hydraulic systems, assessing the condition of electrical systems and protective equipment, etc. Blade inspection also requires special attention: modern technologies allow it to be carried out using drones or using rope access, which significantly increases the safety of work and the quality of inspection. During such inspections, the condition of the lightning protection system, protective coatings, serrators and blade-hub fastening nodes is checked.
An important market trend is the need to develop local Ukrainian service teams that will provide not only high-quality installation and service, but also warranty and post-warranty support regardless of the availability of foreign specialists. This will reduce wind turbine downtime, reduce operating costs, and increase service flexibility even in wartime.
Olena Umanets, Director of NAVITAS RENEWABLES:
The experience of our team, which has installed most of the European turbines in Ukraine, shows that only a systematic approach, adherence to scheduled maintenance programs and rapid emergency response ensure the stability of generation and extend the service life of the equipment. We are counting on the development of an independent Ukrainian team of highly qualified specialists who work according to international standards and are able to maintain turbines in excellent condition even in wartime. This is not just a service – it is a contribution to the stability and energy independence of Ukraine.
All these aspects together form a comprehensive approach to the development of wind power projects in Ukraine, where professional measurements and high-quality service become the key to long-term reliability, high productivity and sustainability of investments.
UWEA expresses sincere gratitude to WINDHUNTER SERVICE, ADVIRES and NAVITAS RENEWABLES for participating in the webinar, valuable expert speeches and active support for the development of the Ukrainian wind energy market. Together, we are taking steps towards a sustainable and independent energy sector in Ukraine!
