On May 29, 2025, UWEA, together with Windhunter Academy, a leading European training center for wind energy technicians and a UWEA member, held a webinar on the topic “Wind Turbine Maintenance Technicians: Building a New Professional Community and Competencies,” which became important for understanding the role of human capital in wind energy. Interested in the issue of professional restart with the help of green energy, the event brought together representatives of development companies, vocational schools, and HR specialists, who are already building the foundation for a new human resource ecosystem in the industry.
According to the forecast of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), by 2028 the world will need more than 574 thousand new specialists in wind energy, of which almost half are technicians for the installation, operation, and maintenance of wind turbines. For Ukraine, which is experiencing both war and the transformation of its energy system, this is not just a chance, but a historic opportunity.
Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association:
Wind energy in Ukraine is not only about megawatts, it is about people. We must create conditions in which every veteran, miner, student or immigrant can find their new place in green energy.
During the webinar, Windhunter Academy presented a comprehensive system of training technicians, built on international GWO (Global Wind Organisation) standards, which includes:
- GWO Basic Safety Training (working at height, first aid, fire safety, manual handling)
- GWO Basic Technical Training (mechanics, hydraulics, electricity, assembly, bolt tightening)
- As well as: Advanced Rescue, Crane & Hoist, Lift User, Slinger Signaller and other specialized modules.
Over the past 14 years, Windhunter Academy has trained over 31,000 professionals and issued over 54,000 certificates, ranking among the top five training centers in Europe.
Magdalena Kryshchevska, Managing Director of Windhunter Academy:
Qualified personnel are the foundation of a sustainable wind energy industry. Every technician we train today accelerates the energy transition of tomorrow. It is the standards, skills, and safety culture that elevate the industry to new heights.
Windhunter Academy is already implementing reskilling programs for the military, miners, and fishermen, collaborating with technical colleges and universities, training teachers and students, organizing internships, and supporting innovative initiatives in education.
Ukrainian wind energy is not only a path to energy independence, but also to an open market for new professions. We sincerely thank our partner — Windhunter Academy — for their expertise, inspiration, and openness to cooperation!
