On February 14, 2024, during the international construction fair KyivBuild Ukraine, a forum-workshop called “Rebuilding in Action 2.0” took place. This year’s forum was attended by leading Ukrainian and international construction specialists, as well as state authorities, urban self-government, national and international non-governmental programs and organizations, such as USAID, USAID\DOBRE, Foundation of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation (PAUCI), Confederation of Builders of Ukraine (CBU), etc.

One of the Forums’ experts was Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA’s Board, who spoke at the first session “Public-Private Partnership as a Tool to Increase the Financial Capacity of Communities” organized by the Irpin Recovery Fund. The discussion was moderated by Volodymyr Karpliuk, Founder of the Irpin Recovery Fund, Chairman of the Irpin Investment Council, and Head of regional representation for CBU in the Kyiv region, who emphasized the importance of state-business cooperation for increasing the financial capability of locals.

Andriy Konechenkov, as a representative of the Ukrainian wind community, noted that today communities have a distinct chance to ensure their recovery and further development based on sustainability and energy efficiency with renewables at its core. “State-business cooperation with Irpin and Borodyanka, the cities that were most affected by russian invasion, should focus not just on rebuilding their destroyed infrastructure, but also on their transition towards local and environmentally friendly energy sources like solar, wind, and biomass. The projects that are currently being implemented in these cities as part of the #Renewables4Ukraine campaign with the support of the World Wind Energy Association, the Finnish NGO EKOenergy ecolabel, and the UWEA demonstrate how to make this happen in practice,” Mr. Konechenkov said.

Community leaders, experts, and members of the public, in turn, shared their experiences and successful cases of public-private partnerships for accelerating the recovery of destroyed facilities and the construction of new ones.
